Chingford Times – Chingford kids come bear-ing gifts for refugees

CHURCH and school have launched a project to send teddy bears to refugee children.

St Peter and Paul’s Church, in The Green, has launched ’Project Paddington’ in partnership with Chingford C of E Infant and Junior School, in Cambridge Road.

The project, set up by Father Andy Trenier, includes sending refugee children notes and pictures from the schoolchildren, as well as money raised through sponsorship.

Project Paddington – What happens:

1) A washed teddy bear from a child’s home is brought into school and placed inside a named plastic bag.

2) A drawing is also placed into the bag along with an encouraging note to a refugee child.

3) Volunteers in school laminate the messages and attach them to the bears.

4) The bears are then brought over to church for collection and distributed to refugee families in Calais and reception centres in this country and across the globe.
